Пшено = millet


Finally I found a page that lists some nice baking millet recipes – here. I will definitely try something this weekend. Perhaps I will try to translate the recipe to English afterward (it comes out well).

Ok, continuation:

I’ve been cooking this stuff for a while already. Seems to come out ok, a bit on the dry side. So, the recipe:

  • 65 g of millet
  • 170 g milk or water
  • 10 g sugar
  • 5 g butter
  • 8 g egg
  • 60 g of apples or pears, fresh
  • 5 g of sour cream

Cook the millet on milk with some water (basically, put it in water for a couple of hours then let it  boil). Then beat the eggs with sugar and add to the cold millet (I use cold one otherwise it will cook the egg too soon). Cover the bottom of a baking dish with some butter. Put half of the mixture in the dish then put the fruits, then put the rest of the millet.

Sometimes I add sour cream, cottage cheese, or farmers cheese. I also usually just mix the fruits directly without that half busyness. Other stuff can be added like raisins, dried cranberries, nuts. Also, rice can be used instead of millet.
